CATALOG OF ERMINIA. PART I.
ERMINIA FROM ENGLAND AND BULGARIA
Arhidiacon ANASTASIE AUREL ROBU
Abstract:
The Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Erminia were studied in two stages (1845-1936 and 1976-2004). The foundational research was laid down by the Romanian byzantinologist Vasile GRECU, while the last research studies, accomplished by the Bulgarian and Serbian scientists, update and complete the first investigations. Nevertheless the fruits of these investigations are dispersed in a number of scientific papers, many quite inaccessible due to language barriers. On the other hand the differences in terminology often led to confusions and errors of interpretation/in understanding. That is why we gathered all the known results and analyzed them in a critical way. Those sources accessible to us we analyzed in situ, while those inaccessible to us we exploited scientifically based on their editions. In doing so, we often corrected and completed them we new information. Thus we compiled a collection of 90 sources, three of them no longer existant – they were nevertheless preserved in our proposed Catalogue since they survive through their editions. We hope that this Catalogue be a useful tool for those who want to gain a better understanding of the Erminia.
