FROM MONARCHY TO POPULAR REPUBLIC:
ROMANIA BETWEEN 1945-1947.
A POLITICAL RETROSPECTIVE

Emanuel COPILAŞ

Abstract:
Trough „salami tactics”, the former Hungarian communist leader Mátyás Rákosi meant the gradual „slicing” of the East European’s states political opposition until the exclusive imposition of the communist government. The recipe was successfully applied in the Romanian case. The present paper follows the meandered process of Romania’s communization placing it in a larger geopolitical context, comparing it shortly with what happened with the future „brotherly countries” and taking into account the staking out of the main moments of Romania’s forced integration onto the Soviet sphere of influence. Last but not least, the deconstruction of several aggressive and anti-occidental myths is attempted, which presumably had left us at Stalin’s mercy – sadly, almost a constant of Romania’s recent history.
