Din istoricul Mănăstirii Hodoș-Bodrog, cea mai veche mănăstire ortodoxă din România cu viață monahală neîntreruptă

Gabriela Adina MARCO

Abstract:
Since the beginning of the second millennium, a strong Christian activity developed in the Lower Mureş area. The Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery represents a powerful centre of Orthodoxy, with a continuous activity since 1177 until nowadays. The statistical data for the Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery also include the figures for the villages of Bodrogul Nou (New Bodrog) and Bodrogul Vechi (Old Bodrog), as „perniavor„ settlements. The agenda of the hierarchical separation process between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Orthodox Church included the sensitive issue of the monasteries in Banat, including the Arad monasteries Bezdin and Hodoş-Bodrog. The current stage of the research consists of a succinct presentation of the historical evolution of the Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery, while the following research step will focus on the identification of original manuscripts and documents of genuine documentary and historical value in the archives and the library of the Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery.
